Hello, my name is Jesse. I grew up and lived in Mount Gambier for the
majority of my life. I moved to Adelaide in 2021 and got a job in
youth work. Making this change was one of the best things that I have
ever done.
I am very passionate about the industry I work in. Working in this
sector has taught me a lot about different cultures, lifestyles and
ways of living. It has also exposed me to working with kids with
trauma and how that plays an ongoing role in a kid’s life. I am
constantly learning and looking to upskill in the different roles I
work in. Working as a youth worker inspired me to become a mentor, I
want to have a positive impact on as many different lives as possible.
I am an easy going, friendly, kind and approachable person that is
always up for a laugh. I love all kinds of sports including football,
soccer, basketball, golf and many more. I have played sports
competitively for most of my life. I also love playing video games,
listening to music, cooking, playing with my dog and spending time
with friends and family.
I think I’ll make a good mentor because I love working with all kinds
of kids young and old. I will be a good role model that helps the kids
work through any different challenges or difficulties they are
experiencing in life. I will build relationships, set goals, teach
life skills and most importantly have fun.
I am currently studying my cert 4 in youth work, and my diploma in
community services

moving back and forth over the years of my life, I feel that young people are all looking for aspirations and goals in life. so in 2008 I looked at studying a certificate 3 in community service which I completed it in 2009. 2009 I started my first mentoring job at Metropolitan Aboriginal Youth and Family Services as a youth mentor until 2012. and in 2013 I moved back to Ceduna started working at the Ceduna Youth Hub for a year, then went on to work in the Education Department at Ceduna Area School as a Aboriginal Community Education Officer (ACEO) until 2018 then moved back to Adelaide to continue to work at Woodville High School as a (ACEO) until 2019.

Larni
Mentor
My name is Larni, and I grew up in Adelaide. From the moment I graduated high school, I’ve had a strong passion for youth work, and I’m thrilled to have finally entered this field. It truly feels like one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve always been driven by the desire to make a positive impact, and youth work provides me with the perfect platform to do just that.
I’m deeply committed to this industry because I believe in fostering meaningful connections, building lasting friendships, and creating positive, fun learning experiences that inspire young people to grow and thrive. It’s so fulfilling to be a part of their journeys and support them through different stages of their lives. I approach my work with enthusiasm and compassion, striving every day to be a positive role model who encourages and uplifts the youth I work with. The opportunity to be there for them, help them build confidence, and watch them learn new skills is incredibly rewarding.
In my personal time, I enjoy a variety of activities that help me recharge and stay balanced. I spend a lot of time training at the gym. I’m also passionate about working on my cars – I find great satisfaction in both fixing and modifying them. Whether I’m troubleshooting an issue or upgrading parts.
I also enjoy exploring new places, because I’m always curious about different cultures, environments, and experiences. Whether it’s hiking through a new trail, checking out hidden local spots, or planning a road trip with music jamming. I find great joy in discovering unfamiliar places. On top of that, I’m an avid music lover. Also love all sorts of sports or outdoor activities.
Learning new things is a big part of who I am. I’m always open to discovering new hobbies, exploring different locations, or diving into the latest trends in music, games, or other areas of interest. There’s always something new to learn, and I’m eager to continue growing, whether that’s through my work, my hobbies, or the people I meet along the way.
